Anyway, it's the trend of trying to tie in the inferiority of the competition by correlating it with the inferiority of its employees. As in, that girl is an example of human trash who completely sucks at life and is doomed to mediocrity and failure because she works for that loser chain over there, and if she really wants to improve her life she should just kill herself because she is of actual negative value to society and the only hope of her adding value to end her existence.

...well, ok, maybe that's a bit too far. But it's obvious that various advertising campaigns (this is far from the only one) are trying really hard to insult the hard-working employees of the competition who slave daily to earn wages both behind and up front of the counter, and I can't help but imagine that something like this would just be a teensy, tiny little insulting. I mean, not that I'm advocating it, but after long hours on the job I might be a little inspired to go down to one of the competition's stores with a nice big can of petrol and a reliable lighter.

...ok, maybe that's a bit far, too.

Soon none of them will have employees so I imagine this line of advertising will begin to fail.

I didn't see that at all, but you're right in some way. They cheapen the actors and deliberately mess with makeup and lighting to make them look less appealing in the advertisements. They are trying to evoke the same "AGH!" reaction you get when you encounter a truly bad server.

It's because no one remembers the good fast food employees, only the bad. Therefore, if you want to play off people's memories (you have to for a successful ad) you must play off those stereotypes.

I work with advertisements like this all the time. Some of the campaigns on that website are ones I was a part of.

In my opinion the worst are what we call "douchebag dad" (or husband, really) advertisements.

I think it was Yoplait who had the worst offender.

First they had a woman half-faking an orgasm over her yogurt. I have yet to meet a woman who has an out of body experience when she eats artificial key lime pie flavoring.

Then, here he comes! Look at good 'ol douchebag dad, thinking that there's an actual pie in the house! What a tool!
